This is mainly a matter of curiosity but what should I be looking for as far as milage goes on a 1990 Geo Metro 3cyc, auto with air, 4 dr.? I have had the car since it was new but never checked the miles per gallon. I just did and it was 20 miles to the gal. Of course this is with misfires, etc. on the last tank. I live in California so I realize that some of the smog controls that are on the car will make a difference. I would just like to have an average to judge performance.

I have 2 geos. My 91 4dr auto/air gets about 25MPG intown winter and close to 30MPG intown summer. Highway mileage isn't much better than 30-35MPG cause they rev up so high with the 3 speed. I tried driving 55 once and I got 40MPG but at 70MPH It will only be around 30-35mpg.
My 93 2 door air/auto is about the same and it has low compression in #1.
The 5-speeds do about 10mpg better than the autos

Thank you for the information. I know it is strange but my wife had the use of the car for years and I just never got around to check the mpg until today. :)
I am retired and will use it primarily around town on short trips, so milage or gas isn't a problem. I still consider it a novelty to drive a 3 cyc.

I've owned 2- 3 Cyl Metros that I have checked the MPG several times on. My 94 2 Dr...Auto Tran (RIP)...Got approx 27 in the city and 33 on the Hwy....My Current Metro is a 94 4-DR with AC & Manual trans...It's been on the road since last Sept. I'm getting approx 35 in the city and 42-44 on the Hwy but I haven't used the AC/Summer driving in it yet. There are alot of hills in my my area so conditions like this can contribute to varying results on MPG....Tip: Always check your tire pressures when seasons change.....when it gets colder out, tire pressure drops! underinflated tires are a good way to not only loose MPG but increase tire wear!!!

my 98 5sp 3cly has gotten as high as 52 this fall and as low as 44 this winter. Thats combined city and hwy. I do let it run for 10 min or so in the mornings now that it's cold. I check it every fill up.
