Thumbs down Overheating/Leaking Anti-freeze

Ok, I have a problem with my 98 Z-24.. For the past month or so, my car as been pissing anti-freeze like its going out of style. Its coming from the back of the engine somwhere, I cant exactly tell where because my car is lowered and I dont have a jack to put it up on. I know its coming from somwhere underneath the exhaust manifold. It goes through a gallon or so of anti-freeze within about 15 mins of driving.. Not the whole thing, just quite a bit of it. I am able to drive around for 2 or 3 days with the light displaying low coolant level, and it doesnt overheat, although when its full, its overheating like crazy. When my car is running at idle, I can hear the anti-freeze bubbling in the resevior. I dont understand it, I mean.. I work on 65 million dollar aircraft, but I cant seem to figure out what the problem is. I looked over all the hoses before, and didnt see any cracks or slices or anything to that nature. Im stumped at this point. Could I get some advice please? I would really appreciate it.

Re: Overheating/Leaking Anti-freeze

it sounds like a head gasket or cracked head. Also the car is probably not registering that it is overheating because you have just below enough coolant touching the ect sensor.

I dunno.. I dont think its the head gasket just because it doesnt have the white smoke when I start the car up.

Re: Overheating/Leaking Anti-freeze

a head gasket does not always cause coolant to leak into the combustion chambers. check out websites with images of head gasket problems. you can see in those images that the head gasket can leak from cylinder to cylinder causing loss of compression. u said it was pooring out from under the exhaust manifold? i got the 2.2liter in my 01 cav and there is just the head gasket that could cause the problem or the block, or you could have a crack in the block or a freeze plug. i am just ranting of some stuff ive seen and heard. i work in an autoparts store and dude some of the fucking shit i have seen on these peoples cars is unbelievable that they still run.
