New Process 435!

I have a '82 Ford 1/2 ton 4-Wheel Drive truck. I now that it has a NP435(4 Speed w/Granny Gear) It has a hard time going into 3rd gear. I had a Master Auto Technican tell me that the Sycronisers are going out, Is this true??? Where can I find a re-build kit for this tranny??

Re: New Process 435!

As far as a rebuild kit, im not sure if anyone offers a "kit" for these transmissions or not. But all the parts in it are still available, and you can get them from your local ford dealer. You can also check here:

Or your local auto parts should be able to help you track down the parts if they want to. I would drain the oil into a clean container and look for metal shavings(big pieces, a small amount of fine particles is normal) . If the trans is working ok otherwise, and not making any noise, you can run it for a long time with bad snychronizers. Just have a little patience, and shift a little slower. Hold a little pressure on the lever and let the rpm drop a little, when the rpm drops to the right spot, it will fall in gear without a sound. (unless you have serious problems) Of course, if you find peices of metal it may need attention right away, but normally these transmissions are tougher than a bodoc fence post, and will stand alot of abuse.
