'97 Blazer. Do I need to replace the spring wound tension coil inside the safety belt mechanism to get back my tension? The belt has very little tension on it. What would be the cost of this too, thanks.

With a safety item such as a seat belt, I would not recommend anything other than replacing it with a new one from the dealer. A quick call to your neighborhood dealer will give you the cost.

There was a safety belt recall/upgrade awhile back for 97s. My dealership upgraded things for me for free, but that was about 3 years ago.

might be worth a try to see if they could replace or upgrade it ...

now wait a minute guys, are you talking about the recoil mechanism that stores the belt out of way when not in use or the inertia tensioner that tightens and locks the belt in a sudden stop, or accident? two different things.

That isn't a real safety thing.

Mine has been shitty for a while and I have just given it more time to recover up when not in use.

A safety belt is not a safety thing??? The recoil mechanism has a ratchet that stops the belt from coming out in the event of an impact, seems to me that's a safety thing.

No, what I meant is the retract mechanism if weak pullit up to the top when you are getting out of the truck is weak, it isn't a big deal.

It doesn't affect how the mecanism grabs in the base of a collision.

Mine has been weak for 7 years and it still grabs perfectly when I give it a quick pull.
