whirring noise after driving at high speeds 04 T&Crbeal7 01-12-2007, 02:32 PM Hello, my van is making whirring noises from the engine area after i travel on the interstate. it continues until i shut off van and let it cool off for about an hour. it shifts fine even when whirring so i am not sure if it is trans problem. i had trans replaced under warranty about 3000 mi ago...now out of warranty. fluid levels are good. anyone have any ideas??? i never noticed this noise until after my last oil change...don't know if this could have anything to do with it. thanks, R Stretch58 01-12-2007, 03:45 PM Hello, my van is making whirring noises from the engine area after i travel on the interstate. it continues until i shut off van and let it cool off for about an hour. it shifts fine even when whirring so i am not sure if it is trans problem. i had trans replaced under warranty about 3000 mi ago...now out of warranty. fluid levels are good. anyone have any ideas??? i never noticed this noise until after my last oil change...don't know if this could have anything to do with it. thanks, R I would wait till it is doing it again, pull over while engine is still running in park, lift the hood and see if the electric radiator fan is running, while you are at it check your transmission fluid, should be on the hot mark if you have been on the interstate. If it is the fan, it is possible the oil change guy spilled some oil on it and made it unbalanced, if so, wait till it is all cooled off and carefully wipe the blades clean. Other than that, might need more info. such as does it only do it in gear? Or does it even do it in Park? Might need to get under the hood and get your ear carefully closer to the "whirring" to find out where it is coming from. I am sure others have some good ideas Good Luck thezofk 04-08-2007, 01:02 PM Have a '02 T&C that had the EXACT same symptoms. The whirring noise would change in pitch related to engine revs and turning the steering wheel. Does your T&C act similarly? Dealer claims a seal on the power steering rack was blown (bad), and the rack/gear would need replacement. I wasn't happy, but after repair the van is quiet and the alignment is tight and true.
