Re: 96 sonoma won't start

Is it turning over? Are you getting spark? Fuel? Air?

Not much to go on.

Re: Help Please!!!!

Air flow to what? You need to explain in detail what you're trying to check.

Re: 96 sonoma won't start

Check for spark at each spark plug - make note if the spark is white or blue. Check the max fuel pressure at the shrader valve for the 2-seconds when the key is first turned on.

Re: 96 sonoma 4.3L vin.x

Remove an easy access spark plug, re-connect the spark plug wire, set it so the metal part of the spark plug sits secure on a piece of metal on the motor.
Have an assistant try to start the motor while you're observing the spark plug....does it spark while the motor is turning over?

CRANK = "TURN OVER" Same thing. "Firing" is when a fuel/air mixture is ignited and the engine produces power and either runs or tries to run.

Given that it's a '96, it's most likely that it is a CPFI fuel system. While you might be certain that there is fuel in the tank, and that the pump is running, it's not that easy to be sure that the injectors are operating and that the engine is actually getting fuel during cranking. Unless you have pulled the upper plenum and obsrved injectors while cranking, or have evidence of fuel being administed to cylinders (like wet spark plugs) it's difficult to determine if the poppet injectors are operating.

It will be far easier to verify that there is spark at the cylinders and that there is proper fuel pressure during cranking, and then verify that the injector signals are present. Through that process of elimination, you can narrow the possibilities.

Re: 96 sonoma 4.3L vin.x

Cam sensor does not effect starting - crank sensor under the front by the base of the timing cover does - tells PCM where the crank is and when to fire the plugs at $55 and do not get a Wells (autoZ) but Delco or a GP/Standard (same company) at most other stores.
