You have a malfunction in the ABS system. The ABS function has been disabled until it is repaired.
You need to get the code pulled to find out exactly what is causing the fault.
Base brakes are not affected

Thank you!
But how can I have code pulled? Do I need some special tool for it... My friend said I shoud try to wash the wheels... Do I have ABS on both rear and front wheels?

By the way... I do not feel any differnce without ABS)

We need to know what year to answer that question.

Red or yellow brake light?
What year is it?
You will need a ABS brake capable scanner.
Parts places with free code checks usually can not scan for ABS brake codes.
Good repair shop or dealer unless you have a good buddie that has one.

It is yellow ABS light and it is a 1992 Cavalier. Is there a difference between red and yellow?

Yellow one is for ABS and red is for regular brake problems.
Looks like wheel speed sensors on all 4 wheels.
First step is get the abs brake code and post back code no.

Your choice but just remember no ABS brakes for you when you hit a slick spot.

Re: ABS light is on while driving

on a perfect day if i needed to stop fairly quickly(like in cleveland driving with crazy people) it would make this electronic clicky sound and the car would start the ABS and and not let me brake but instead would rapidly apply the brakes and it would take an extra 20 feet to stop and scare the shit out of my passengers while i almost rear end someone, but now that the fuse is pulled it stops like a normal car and considering ABS is an optional accesory in new cars i figure it is not needed and i can just be a little more carefull when it is slick

Re: ABS light is on while driving

Yea the ABS light has been on in my Cavy since I got it, and I havnt had any problims, and as long as I stop, who cares whats wrong with it... I have never had a problim on slick roads or anythign, I guess thats what happens when you first learn how to drive in an old car, they dont have ABS, so you have to learn to go with out it, just remeber, dont slam on the brake, and pump it, thats basically what the ABS does for you, pumps the brake so they dont lock up (for those of you who dont know what it is..)

Re: ABS light is on while driving

Thank you, lets sum it up...
1. When I have a yellow ABS light - its OK, and it is safe to drive as my brakes are working.
2. If I would have RED ABS light - my regular brakes do not work?

The yellow light is a warning light that tells you the ABS brake system has a problem and your ABS braking system is shut down.

The red light tells you have a problem with the regular braking system.
They may work or may not work depending on the problem.
And can even fail or be bad without a red light coming on.

The ABS braking system is a braking anti skid system.
It shuts off brake fluid pressure to the wheel that is locked up or not turning the same speed as the others.
They are made to keep a car from sliding or going into a skid on slick roads.

Some drivers do not like them and some do not fully understand how they work.
Just like seat belts and air bag system they can save your life in a split second if working right.
But can take your life in a split if not working right.

As said they are safety devices and do have warning lights to show a problem if not working right.
To fix them if broke is your choice.
They can take your life or save it in a split second.
And just like the bumper sticker says do not get caught dead sitting on your seat belt or with Sir light on or ABS light on.
