98 Blazer driver door spring replacement. How do I (they)?

hi all you. My damn 98 Blazer is falling apart. The spring on the driver door was corroded i suppose and fell (broke) off. So now my door doesnt close. I have to lift it up a little. A friend had ordered me the part was gonna just put in a new one, but when we went to look at the door we noticed that the part where the spring sat at is welded. Is this normal? OR am i talking crazy? There didnt seem to be any screws or anything. Maybe im not explaining myself. I just couldnt see how you could take the door off without unwelding it. sighs..i dont know. someone know what im talking about?? any reply appreciated. thanks guys.
