check engine light

I have a 94 3/4 ton silverado and the check engine light is on, the cruise doesnt work when it is on but when I turn the truck on and off it works again and the light is gone, anyone here have experience with that or know what the problem is, since its a obd1 i can't run to autozone and check the code and I dont feel like paying for the codes to be read. any info would be appreciated

12 is the system is in diagnostics mode. If you use the table at the very end of the page I posted, it will cover most of the codes that your truck can have.

Was the check engine light on before you checked for codes?

His first post states that he had the check engine light on that is why he needed to get the codes.

He also said (in his first post) that if he turns it off and back on the light goes out.

Re: check engine light

ok the light came on and then went off I went to go check it but it was off. So the only code that I got was code 12. So do I have to wait till it comes on again and then check it. or what?

Yep. On my 90 K1500 Sierra, the light has to be on to pull a code jumpering A and B on the ALDL connector. I also have WinALDL and it will show recent codes so a scan tool should be able to tell you what the code is (or wait until is comes back on).
