good idea for an air intake?

Well i've been looking at all these kits for cold air intakes. And i found I can only get one for my car unless I order it, because it is a 2.2L 1993. Also, the cost would be around 200$ after shipping and exchange rates, etc. So. My father and I have come up with this idea and are going to give it a try.
The k&n filter is no problem for me to aquire. just need to goto the autoparts store and grab one. The main piece is the air delivery. I dont have access to 3" tubing, however I do have access to lots of ABS and PCV pipe, which comes in different diameters (including 3") and stands up good in high heat. I figure i would take some of that along with some joints, and come up with a good air delivery system that would hook into the throttle body and filter the same way a true k&n system would work. In a few weeks I am going to give this a try. Just thought I would let you's know, and get your opinions.

Re: good idea for an air intake?

I do that all the time. The differences are that its ugly and it can sound pretty weird compared to a manufactured one. But it does the same basic thing for a lot less $$. I have a combination AEM short ram and my own pvc tubing to make it a cold air on my Civic and it works pretty well.

Re: good idea for an air intake?

well thanks for that input. now i know that it CAN be done haha. I don't really care how it looks. And my car is already loud because the exhaust, so i could care less how it sounds lol. I also work at a hardware store, and i get great discounts. So i know i can do it for only a few pennies. I'll take some pictures along the way.
