97 cavalier w/ 2.4L, transmission is acting up!

My girlfriend drives a 97 Cavalier w/ a 2.4L in it. It has about 110,000 miles and has been maintained and fluids have been changed pretty frequantly. Anyway, she was conming home last night and it started acting up. I drove it tonight and it shifts really hard when coming out of first and then when it gets ready to shift out of 2nd to 3rd it just sits at 3,000rpms and revs and wont go past 40mph and it sounds like its redlining..I checked the transmission fluid and it was fine..The only major problem was that her motormounts are really bad when i shifted into drive from park the whole engine moved...and it shakes at idle really bad too...has anyone had this problem happen and maybe know what it is..Im thinking the loose motormounts probably destroyed her trans, differential but not for sure.
THanks for any help

Is it throwing any codes?

When the 4spd auto is slamshifting like that, it could be something as simple as the IAT sensor.

I got it fixed...the problem was that one of the coils packs on the spark pkug boots was bad and it was misfiring randomly...also the cat was clogged and wasnt allowing the car to reach a high enough rpm to shift...got a new catylic converter welded on and new spark plug boots and and plugs and its running like a new car Thanks for your help though......
