What cars do you and your family have?Heep 09-01-2001, 11:19 AM Keep going...try to keep it clean this time, eh? :D gang$tarr 09-01-2001, 04:22 PM thanks :) i'm just glad everything's all cleared up.... I'm still gunna try to get those pictures so that nobody has any doubts I'm happy to get back to my posting :D moe182 09-08-2001, 01:10 PM 1997 SL 500 (Dads) 2000 S500 (Dads) 2000 VW Jetta (sisters) 2001 Acura CL 3.2 (moms) And hopefully soon a 2002 Celica GT-S (soon to be mine) gang$tarr 09-08-2001, 11:54 PM you got an SL500 too... that's coo have you driven it? I think it's a sweet ass ride, i drive my dad's ever chance i get :D moe182 09-09-2001, 01:57 AM Yea I drive it when i can.....its a great car for what it is. Its not a sports car by any means, i mean its just too heavy to handle/accelerate like one....its 4200 lbs car....Its a GT Luxury cruiser with a enough "sport" in it to make old people (like our fathers, and ppl who dont know cars) think that it IS a sports car...Its great daily driver (which is what its meant to be) in the fact that when you want the car to be quite civil, it can...and when you want it to roar and spin the tires it will.....The new 2003 SL is supposed to be alot more nimble then this one... gang$tarr 09-09-2001, 08:59 PM my dad only uses it as a fun car.... he only drives it in the summer moe182 09-09-2001, 09:04 PM Samething with my dad.....we're (my family) convinced that its his mid-life crisis car. Which is fine, he deserves it. Hell he went from being on welfare, to a sucessful business man. gang$tarr 09-09-2001, 09:17 PM that's quite a change! i think my dad's been wealthy all his life so no success story there :) hermunn123 09-09-2001, 11:00 PM hahahaha, thats pretty funny. i dont like sl500's too much. maybe if AMG ripped off 1000 lbs and made it handle and accelerate i'd like it. moe182 09-09-2001, 11:47 PM They did. The next generation SL's (2003) are going to be 300 Kg's lighter then this model, and the SL 55 AMG is suposedly going to be super charged to the sweet sound of 400-450 horses or so i hear. Hell they saved 33lbs on the hood alone. They're not bad cars. They're just not geared to performence, as much as lets say Porsche is (or at least this generations)....I mean you can get the SL 600 up to a good 550 hp if ya send it to RENNtech..... gang$tarr 09-10-2001, 11:08 PM well it has 302hp, so it aint that bad.... I think it handles great, just not as quick as a lighter car still does 0-60mph in like 6s, that aint too shabby.... it's a performance oriented luxury car but i still don't think it's worth a $100,000 well then again it is totally loaded with crazy options, it has lots of cool things..... Heep 09-10-2001, 11:13 PM How much did the model before that cost (the late 70's and 80's one)? Cause, compared to the newer ones, they are friggin everywhere. Not that it's a bad thing, but they must have costed an awful lot less for them to be that popular. gang$tarr 09-11-2001, 01:27 PM they're really popular cause they're a status symbol, so all older people who have money want one to show people they have money that's why i want my dad to buy somethin new, cause i don't like that image... makes us look snobby Porsche 09-11-2001, 04:38 PM Lotus! Lotus! Lotus! Heep 09-11-2001, 05:10 PM Yeah, but they sold a ton more older models than with the 90's one...why'd they all buy back then and not now? tanjwarrior 09-12-2001, 09:33 PM Daily rides: 1988 Buick Riveria 1988 Buick Reatta 1997 Yamaha Virago (After 3 HD's, need to try something else] My toys: 1979 Porsche 924 [set up for the track only] 1984 Porsche 944 [might be sold! Too many toys] 1979 Porsche 928 [Getting ready for restoration & some mods put on] gang$tarr 09-12-2001, 10:00 PM instead of havin a bunch of old cars why don't you get a couple good new cars? Heep 09-12-2001, 10:42 PM I'd rather have a sweet-ass old car than a mediocre or half-decent new car. JDR 09-12-2001, 10:43 PM My current ride: 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue GX gang$tarr 09-12-2001, 10:51 PM Originally posted by Heep I'd rather have a sweet-ass old car than a mediocre or half-decent new car. yeah i mean instead of having several mediocre cars i'd rather half 1 or 2 really good cars.... doesn't that make sense? Porsche 09-12-2001, 11:02 PM Tanjwarrior Are your POrsches by Chance White? If so I saw your webiste before with your 928 and 944 the 914 was of in a bush. Heep 09-13-2001, 06:58 PM Yeah, OK, I get ya. Seraph 10-06-2001, 12:55 AM Me: 1989 Audi V8 Quattro 2001 BMW 318i E46 (company car) Dad: 1993 Toyota Estima Lucida diesel 4WD Mum: 1994 Misubishi RVR Brother: 1992 Toyota Camry Prominent (used to be mine) :smoker2: Jimster 10-12-2001, 04:42 PM Seraph: How does your father live with driving a Lucida and particuarly a Lucida DIESEL!!!!!!! Those things have got to be the slowest cars on New Zealands roads, I know that because I have been stuck behind countless numbers of them trying to hurl themselves up the road. Nevertheless Dad: 2003 VW Passat 2.8 V6 Mum: 2003 Skoda Octavia 2.0 Liftback Sister: 1991 Mazda MX-5 1.6 (Step)Brother: 1994 Honda Civic 1.5LX Sister 2:2000 Mercedes Benz ML320 Me: Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 Wife: FIAT Stilo 1.8 Another notable car is my Uncles Maserati 3200GT and Ferrari 360 Modena F1:bloated: NissanZ@af 10-12-2001, 08:44 PM Dad: '89 Audi 90 Mom: '95 Ford Windstar Me: '94 Toyota Celica ST Brother: '87 Nissan Stanza (He can't drive yet though.) Seraph 10-13-2001, 09:02 PM Nah, the Lucida rocks :D It is indeed really slow accelerating but thats what makes it fun. You need to practice a certain driving style if you want to get anywhere fast. Because of the fact it takes so long to speed up you use the brakes a lot less in traffic, meaning you have to maneuvre a lot more. I can still maintain a much higher average speed in the Lucida than most people can in any car. And uphill its perfectly fine, it has plenty of torque so even when fully loaded with people it gets up hills at a reasonable pace, if you are going into the hill at a decent speed and give it the right amount of gas in the right time so it downshifts (its an auto). We've proven it time and again on numerous trips out of town, when all the V6 and V8 Holdens etc pulled out and passed the Lucida in the passing lane on the hills, as soon as they got to the top and at the next stretch they got overtaken again, and fell way behind. What the hell is the point of passing if youre gonna crawl along at 110k, and slow down to 60 for every corner ? Also some of those diesel vans you see around are in quite poor order and blow clouds of black smoke, ours is perfectly maintained so it might be a tad better performing than your average diesel Lucida. Basically, you get used to any car, there are just some things you have to do differently... Mine are all parked in a larger garage. gang$tarr 10-23-2001, 04:03 PM why do you keep so many cars? why don't you sell them? and where do you find a place to park all those? Polygon 10-23-2001, 04:10 PM I like driving different cars, and each one had its own peonage. Like I said I keep them in a large garage. Besides, even though they mint and most of them modded, I am sure the resale is low. They are worth more to me to have fun with than sale. And in the winter I drive the Ramcharger and Jeep rather than my cars especially the Cuda. They have always worked great for us throughout the years. Though there are a few older Chevys and Shelbys that I would like, and a lot of foreign cars, but I can't afford them right now.
