I've been having trouble finding the generic replacement filter, so i I have opted to go with the K&N filter. Does anybody have opinions on whether or not it is worth the the high price tag?

I would not waste the money. Any foreign parts supplier can sell you and Mann or MAHLE filter. Depenmding on where you live if you have a BAP-GEON store nearby, go there. Also, PUROLATOR makes a filter for your car (a bit pricey perhaps) and ADVANCE/Auto Zone or PEP Boys should have them.
