Re: Oil Pressure Gauge
What does the engine oil pressure read with the key on engine off? The 97+ Corvettes were known for the sending unit going bad and the gauge reading 200+ psi. With the key on engine off they would read about 70psi. If the gauge reads oil pressure with the engine off and key on, unplug the sending unit (top of engine, driver side, behind intake manifold), if the gauge reads 0, I'd suspect the sending unit. It would be good, like MT suggested, to check the actual oil pressure, just to make sure engine damage won't happen. Hope this helps. The only really know gauge issues with all the C/K trucks were with all the gauges not working (there is a program update for this) & an etching/scratching noise (kinda like you described, it is the tach. gauge). They use a "stepper motor" to run the gauge, GM has come out with an updated stepper motor, but you have to get the whole cluster to get the updated stepper motor. Usually you can aggrevate the noise by raising the RPM while sitting still. If you hear the noise while the tach is coming down, and then mostly stops when the tach reads idling RPM, it is most likely the stepper motor. HOpe this helps.
