1990 F350 Diseal with Freezing water crack

I need some help, we recently had a problem with the radiator, put some stop leak in it and filled it back up with water. One thing led to another and its winter time and no anti-freeze got put back in the truck, I bought a brand new radiator and put it in with all hoses attached, the new anti-freeze poured out on the ground, I found a 2 inch crack on part of the engine, how can I fix this??? I need some help it is the passenger side and below the glow plugs toward the motor mounts. Any suggestions would be great

Re: 1990 F350 Diseal with Freezing water crack

There are several things you can do to patch this. The proper way to fix it of course would be to drill it and pin it, or weld it if you can get to it. Dont let just anybody that thinks they can weld try it, if you go that route. Welding cast is tricky, and someone that doesnt know what theyre doing can do more harm than good. That said, here are some patch suggestions. If you can get to it use a die grinder to v the crack out and clean the surrounding area. Degrease it good and use jb weld or something similar to patch it. They make epoxy putty that works well also. Ive patched some years ago that are still holding. If you cant get to it, or in conjunction with it, get some "K&W Block Sealer" , follow the directions, and if it works, which it usually does, its usually permanent. MAKE SURE you flush the entire system, even the heater core, and get ALL the antifreeze out. K&W is not compatible with any anti freeze. Ive used this on some that were like a sprinkler system and it usually works except where you have a crack getting exhaust gasses into the cooling system. They also make a number of commercial products that work, some are quite expensive. The K&W is around 10 bucks i think. Then , if you try this and it works, get some Bars leaks and put in it . It is an excellent sealer also, and you can run it year round, its compatible with antifreeze.

Edit: Check the freeze plugs while youre under there too. If it got cold enuff to crack the block, it may have some of the plugs pushed almost out.
