Angry Swirls in the paint from car wash.....

I always go to those 'do-it-yourself' carwashes to clean my car instead of the drive through ones cause I think it does a better job. Well, Ive never had a problem using the foam brush... untill yesterday.... I didnt go to the car wash I normally go to cause the lineup was huge. I went to another one that is fairly new and nice. I checked the brush as usual to make sure there were no hard parts in it and it was fine.

Well.. Today I looked at my car in the sunlight and it looked HORRIBLE! I almost had a f***ing heart attack! I could see all the strokes I took with the brush ALL over the car! I tried rubbing parts to see if it was just streaks, but no... millions and millions of swirl marks..

Is there anything cost effective I can do to get rid of them? Will getting it buffed help any or am I screwed? ANYTHING? Thanks.

First I'd go back and confront them. Second there are special polishing techniques done professionally to correct this, but a dark color is tough, remember these are fine scratches in the clear coat.

Yeah... too bad they have a sign that says "We are not responsible to ANY damage done to vehicles"

I am gonna look into getting something professionally done. there are a few dents and scratches on the car that were there before I bought it.

Well I can tell you in NYS that sign means nothing, they would still be accountable for defective equipment or negligence.

Yeah... Alot different in canada though. Would cost me more to get a lawyer than it would be to get my car repainted. I can tell you for sure though... Im NEVER going back to that carwash. It just sucks I dont have a driveway I can wash my car on. Most of these places dont allow bucket washing.... maybe ill just get a cloth out when no one is looking and wipe my car down. *sigh*

Re: Swirls in the paint from car wash.....

wash the vehicle by hand, dry off with a chamois and apply 2 coats of carnuba wax, most likely you are seeing swirl marks in the paint, must do with car cool ,waxing that is ,thats only if paint is in good shape, you made need to clean first with paint cleaner, such as meguiars products,if it is in rough shape try cleaner wax ,then 2 coats of carnuba or yellow wax, putting on then taking off,is one coat

Just to clarify...

1st wash the car by hand and chamois dry...

2nd clean the paint with a meguiar product such as the Liquid Cleaner Wax?
http://www.meguiarscanada.com/index....action=detail&

And when all thats done use Carnauba wax like this stuff?
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/p21-127.html

Should all waxing be done by hand or would a buffer be better? The paint is in very good condition. just has swirls in the clear coat now from me using that damn foam brush at the carwash.

Thanks for the response.

Re: Swirls in the paint from car wash.....

K... I have just been looking at more products and I found 3 more.... its a 3 step process from Mothers.
The first step is the Mothers Pre-Wax cleaner.

The second step is Mothers Sealer and Glaze (Fills and hides scratches, swirl marks and spiderwebbing).

The last step is the Mothers Pure Carnauba Liquid Wax.

Has anyone tried these products? Its about $40 for all 3 of them. I dont have a buffer/polisher so im sure my arms are gonna be real tired...

Re: Swirls in the paint from car wash.....

That is the way to go, they even make a color matched swirl polish remover to hide it even better, but you will have to re-apply this process over time as it is not permanent, only fine wet sanding and professional buffing will remove the scratches permanently.
