What are the host of other parts

It appears that a lot of forum members want to know if the L67 from a GTP will fit or can be adapted to the GT or SE. Many of you also want to know if the supercharger from a GTP can be placed on the non-supercharged 3.8. The answer to the question of whether an L67 will fit is yes. But you must change the PCM, fuel pump, and will need to put the 4t65e transmission along with a host of other parts to make it work."

I will either be overhauling my 3.1L, or if it is feasible, buying/overhauling/installing the L67. So what is the host of other parts? What you have listed does not seem to be much of a problem. The popular opinion may be that it is easier to simply buy a GTP, but then I inherit the previous owners problems. Any input would be appreciated.

Re: What are the host of other parts

PCM, complete underhood wiring harness, 2-stage fuel pump, fuel pump resistor, 4t65e-HD trans, CV axles, motor mounts, trans mounts, etc... In addition to the underhood items, if your SE is a column shift car, you'll need a floor shifter/console w/performance shift button, the DIC is different on a gtp to include the boost and performance shift indicators, and the list goes on and on. It would take basically a complete donor car to do it right, it's just not practical. Find a tired out GTP and rebuild it if you want all new, it would cost FAR less in both time and money than transplanting a GTP drivetrain into your car.

Re: What are the host of other parts

It is not a simple yes.

I hate to burst your bubble but you left out the key parts that make the job tedious, impractical and expensive so your suggestion or revelation is misleading. The PCM module and HD tranny components is nothing compared to the key items needed. To adapt an Eaton M90 blower to a L36 SII 3800 engine requires the L67 lower intake manifold, cylinder heads and fuel rails. Also, the drive belt/tensioner pulley system.

On the 4T65E tranny components all that is needed is the heavy duty passenger side axle shaft and beefier differential. Those are the only two differences between the regular 4T65E and the L67's 4T65E-HD autotransaxles.

IMO the best way to do a L36 to L67 conversion is with the ZZP SS M90 kit and ZZP HD tranny conversion kit.

He said he has his eyes on a GTP motor he was thinking of installing (since he stated his car currently has a 3.1), so I left out the engine (and everything on it) from my list. My list was basically an attempt to STRONGLY discourage the swap.

I was addressing the all emcompassing statement made in his first paragraph in which I was basically disagreeing with and to clarify to other members that may read that statement.

Whether he wants to do an L67 swap from a base SE is his business and I wish him good luck.

BTW - He failed to quote that statement as to the source. It is GTP Dad. It is too vague thus the reason for the post here. I thought I saw that someplace.

My apologies on not specifying the source of the quoted paragraph. I had thought that it was fairly obvious.

Anyways, I suppose that I have been thoroughly discouraged. I had found a pretty good deal on an engine/transmission from a 99 GTP and was simply checking for some feedback. So, moving on, I guess I will just have to overhaul the 3.1L and perhaps attempt to squeeze some more juice out of it. Thanks for the feedback.

Already have the floor shifter, it has a spot for the perf shift button that looks to be stubbed off?, and while it is obviously not in use, there is an indicator light for perf shift on the dash. So...add an aftermarket boost gauge.

Re: What are the host of other parts

Well, this afternoon I just happened to run across a 2000 GTP coupe(126k). Asking price is 6100. It has a slightly rough idle, leaking some oil, near-flawless exterior and interior. A lotta miles, I know, but if I could pick it up for ~4500 would it be a worthwhile alternative to the above?

Instead of wasting your time and money on your existing GP SE you are better off starting all over and getting a GTP. As long as the deficiencies are correctable I see no problems especially if you can get the GTP for $4500 or below the $6100. The 126K miles is not bad. Some maintenance issues are normal at that mileage and can be corrected. Like any used car inspect it thoroughly and then carefully make your decision. Good luck.

Re: What are the host of other parts

I agree 100% with you bnaylor. The GTP probably has some nicer options that the SE doesn't. Not to mention your 99 SE has the "anteater grill" which I think is ugly compared to the GT and GTP grill/fascia.

Yep, the "anteater grill" sucks. I was thinking about putting a GT front end on it a while back. But what it comes down to; it'll probably never be faster than a GTP. BTW, still waiting on a counteroffer on the GTP, doesn't look good though
