LIM for 3800 Series II question

Hi: I've been reading about this procedure and I'm not clear on all that is involved with this yet. I was told by a local shop that the push rods needed to be removed in order to remove the LIM gasket?? Is this true? And if so...how do you go about adjusting the valves when it's time to reassemble? Thanks

Attempting this job without a repair manual would be downright stupid. It will have all the required torque specs and proceedures for doing it right.

The procedure he has in his possession has the GM service manual procedure for replacing both UIM and LIM gaskets and all torque specs.

As far as removing pushrods in a SII 3800 the mechanic doesn't know what he is talking about. Unless he was referring to the GM 60 degree engine like the 3.1/3.4L. On those engines 3 pushrods on each bank must be removed to do a LIM job.

On a SII 3800 the pushrods come up from the lifter galley and straight up through the cylinder heads to the rockers, therefore there is no need to remove pushrods on this engine when doing the LIM part of the job. This is applicable to both the L67 and L36 versions of the SII 3800.

Here is a shot of all components removed including the UIM, LIM and all other parts. Note that the pushrods and rockers are intact.

Thanks for making this more clear to me. At least now I know who not to take the car to if I decide not to fix it myself.
