Driveline clunk
Again the 2WD, V8. Makes a noise on start and stop that's like a worn U-joint. Had that checked and its OK. It feels more than makes a noise like there is slack in the driveline.
I had this problem before and took it to a dealer. They fixed it and called it 'driveline service' telling me it needed lubrication. However, there are no fittings on the driveshaft so I don't trust their word (What else is new). Anyway, the noise is back and I would like to fix it myself before giving the dealer $75 for what was probably ten cents of grease somewhere.

They probably lubed the driveshaft front splines with a special grease designed for this.

OK, I'm new here. Are you pulling my leg with the 'special grease' thing? Should I go get you an ST-1? If for real, what's the spec?

Gm released/uses a special lube inside the yoke I am not sure of the exact compound or aftermarket availability, no this isn't a joke I barely have time to help as it is !! Why would you think the special grease was a joke anyway?

Newbie: You're starting off on a real bad foot here!!! Take a look at "max's" post numbers. Take a look at "max's" title!!! If you think he's "pulling your leg" you need to go somewere else for your answers or post some sort of a condolence message if you want further help????

Just imagine..the dealer uses "magic grease"..bet ya if that doesn't fix it, they will sell you a slip yoke with "a magic nickel coating" on it.

So they fixed it and you don't believe them.
Why do you think that just because there isn't a fitting, a component can't be lubercated.

Apology perhaps but not condolences. I meant no disrespect. I am active on several other forums and joshing the FNG is par for the course. I've found the spec on the grease and will be taking it to a local repair shop I can walk home from. The dealer is too far.

Actually, I didn't find the spec itself, just the source. Alldata. I went over to the local shop and related the problem and the solution offered in this thread. The owner looked it up the tech bulletin and said he would order some. He would call me and I could bring the vehicle in for service. Hence, I don't have a GM part number but will try to get it when I take the car in. Its had a battery problem I am trying to zero in on so I can isolate it for them, hopefully before I take the truck in.

I had the same problem with a ford pickup. just used
some plain old chassis grease. problem gone.
can't guarantee it's not bad for seal but doubt it.

I have an '05 and mine makes a "clink" sound (that to me sounds like the usual u-joint) sound. 95% of the time It does it right after i press the brake pedal at any speed and and ocasionally when i shift from park to reverse and rarely when i shift into drive. I took it to my dealer a couple of weeks ago to take a look at that and fix the "clunk" sound that came from the steering wheel (intermediate steering shaft) and they were "not able to duplicate problem" They said it might need driveshaft service and she doesnt even have 25K miles on her yet. Is this the only thing that anyone here has heard of that was the reason for the "clinking" sound?
