I have an 1986 f150 that is having trouble idleing. If I don't put my foot on the accelerator within about 30 seconds it will die. Also the other day I had to hit my brakes harder than usual. This did not allow the transmission to shift gears and It died. As Long as I have it in gear it will usually hold itself at around 400-600 RPMsonce it gets warmed up. This machine has throttle body injection. and a 302 cu in. 3 speed automatic with overdrive. Can any body tell me where to start looking to fix this problem.
After consulting a ford owner friend, he suggested replacing the Idle Air Control Valve--also called the Idle Bypass valve.
The Haynes manual shows how to test it with an ohm meter.
