Tools for brake job 95 camry 4cylhgjacobsen 12-01-2006, 07:32 PM Doing brake job for my friend tomorrow, just curious as to what tools I will need. I am familiar with doing brakes, but his house is far and I only want to take what is necessary for tools. I don't want to load up the car with tools I don't need. For example, would I need allen wrenches or Torx sockets? Or will normal metric tools do the trick? Car is a 95 Toyota Camry 4 cyl, drum rear TIA! KimMG 12-01-2006, 08:35 PM repair manual - do not assume that replacing the brakes is the same on all cars metric combination wrenches metric 3/8" drive socket set brake spring tools brake shoe adjusting tool standard screwdriver hammer - for tapping stubborn drums c-clamps length of tubing and a catch container for bleeding the brakes hgjacobsen 12-01-2006, 09:04 PM Sorry, I communcated poorly. I need info for the front disc brakes.:grinno: popeye08 12-01-2006, 09:17 PM Basically a set of metric socket and wrench, you need 14 (12?)mm socket and a 14 (or12)mm wrench (or an adjustable wrench) to release the sliding pin nut and may need 17mm to release the caliper if change the rotor. Bleeding need a 8 (6?) mm wrench. No need Allen key. Very easy, enjoy it. KimMG 12-01-2006, 11:34 PM I made the list above assuming you would have to do the front and rear brakes. You are going to want to make sure the rear brakes are properly adjusted before bleeding. hgjacobsen 12-02-2006, 04:10 PM Good info! Just what I was looking for! Thanks!!!! Mike Gerber 12-02-2006, 05:16 PM The wheel lug nuts are 21MM. To remove the calipers, if you are just going to change the pads, you will need a 12MM wrench or socket. To remove the torque plate (caliper mounting bracket), if you are removing the rotors for replacement or turning, you will need a 14MM. Bleeder screw should be 8MM as was mentioned above. You will also need something like a large c-clamp and the old pad to bottom out the piston in the caliper.
