Unhappy 94 GL stalling problems...

ok my 94 jetta GL stalls like randomly... i hate when it stalls, i'll be waiting at a red light, and as soon as it turns green, my car stalls, then i trun it back on, drive a little and it stalls again... or like when im in a drive thru... IT stalls... and when i'm about to park my car, it stalls like 3 feet short of the stall, and i have to turn my car back on and move 3 feet up, and shut it off... its kinda embarrising, but i hear like lots of people have the same problem, my friend with a 97 golf had the same problem, but he's rich and got it fixed after spending like $1200 on it, and he said it was the air flow sensor, and gas pump... and 2 other things, but this other guy i saw on another site, said

"One day I drove my Jetta five miles and it died eight times.
The techician advanced the timing (clearly not the culprit of the
stalling) and gave the vehicle back to me. Knowing that I rely on this
Jetta I took it home and fixed what VW had not been able too do.
A split vacuum hose on the fuel pressure regulator caused the stalling
and the heat shield was easy to fix."

this is the only problem with my jetta... after i get the stallin problem fixed my parents will let me get a PAINT JOB! which i really want since the one i got is stock TEAL... YUCK! ... so yea, any info would be appreciated!

I've had the same prob, and (fortunately) have a friend of the family who is a VDub mechanic. He drove the car the other day (with the same symptoms you described), and said it was the rear fuel-pump (in front of the gas tank, under the rear-right door). I replaced it, and haven't had a prob since. Also said that if that didn't fix it, it may be clogged injectors or a bad wire to one of the fuel pumps.

Where do we go now?

I still wanna know if Elvis would've disowned Lisa-Marie for marrying Michael Jackson...

Sad but true...

thnx!

yea, i changed my fuel filter tha other day, it was changed for the first time since it was made... that helped alot! it doesnt stall as much, it only stalled twice so far... and thats great for a one week period... normally it would stall like 6 times a day... usually more, and yea, it always stalled when the engine was hot, and sometimes cold like when i try n start it up in the morning, the engine starts and then shuts off... i would usually always try to gas my car, cause if im waiting at a light or something, the car would stall, so, yea, THANK you so much 4 tha help! i will try n save up for a gas pump, and see if thats my problem! thnx alot again!

i have the same exact problem with the stalling on my 94 jettaIII gl. i took it in the other day and after explaining to them that i though it was the fuel pump they disagreed and told me i had a loose ignition switch and vibrations from driving made my car stall ya well $280 bucks later they "fixed it", it stalled twice the next day. i'm taking it back today. we'll see how it goes. i'll keep you guys updated
