All you need is your registration and any BMW dealer can give you the code.

Yes, dealers are just trying to protect themselves from an unauthorized person getting the radio code (steal a radio, get the code, and you now have a useable radio).

ok then thanks for the help

oh one other question. if i dont want to use it and dont want to get the code nothing will happen. if i take it out and put in my own headunit and change all the speakers out right.

No problem changing out head units. I did the same to my 1988 750 (Alpine CD unit). I let the roadies at circuit City wire it in and I used the internal amp of the alpine unit (factory amp is located in trunk, drivers side, behind the vertical carpeting just forward of the wheel well). No problems and no code issues.

I decided to not mess with the CODE on this radio and just get an aftermarket Kenwood..

Situation is that I dont want to spend $30.00 bucks for a Harness Kit and then another $12.00 for an Antenna Adapter so I decided to figure out which wire is which.. the one inside the dash radio plug has multiple colored wires of which i dont know what is what since I dont have a Repair Manual.

Well I managed to take a digital pic of both the block inside the dash and also one of the block behind the radio.. (Hence I butchered the radio rear to remove this piece)

My questions is if anyone knows a link to the wire schematic and the colored wires. I'm not cheap to have to buy a repair service manual ; its just simply that I am unemployed and can't afford one at $75.00 on ebay

Here are the pics that I photoshopped to display the numerals on both wire blocks the one behind the stock factory radio and the one attached to the harness inside the Dash.

This is the website you need to pull a schematic of yur cars stereo or any electrical system. the PDF file takes a bit of time to load, but it is there, straight from the BMW ETM.

I searched incessantly last night on that site address and I still could not find the schematic or diagrams of the actual wires and what their colors are. It just doesnt have it. It simply gives a general outline as to the differences or comparatives between U.S. and European terminology.

Like for instance: Wire Colors

English DIN (German)
Black..................Sw
Blue....................Bl
Brown..................Br
And so on and so on....

I need the complete cluster page of the complete wire harness from headlights to tail lights... There should be a page that shows just interior electronic components such as Radio, Instrument Cluster, even a Hazard Switch .. like what the yellow wire with red dot means... or green wire with white stripe...

I am trying to figure out which ones are my right speaker from my left speaker and so on..

With a test light I was able to find out that:

Position #5 is +12V Switchable (Ignition)
Position #9 is +12V Constant

I am confused, by going to the website I gave you are on the E32 board. Scroll down until you get to the electronics and click on 1991 electrical troubleshooting manual, once that loads, scroll down to the electronics and click on the 1991 electrical troubleshooting manual and then scroll down on the left side until you get to the radio and click on the PDF icon and the wiring diagram comes up. This is the factory schematic exactly as in the Bentley manual and you can look at wiring for any system in the car.
