91 RS Camaro - new Father / Son project

Hi Folks,

New member to the F Body site. I have a 99 K1500 Z71 myself and my son just sold the Lumina and got a project car to go over, and end up in great condition in the end.

It a 91 RS, 3.1L, 140k miles, Auto Trans, PS, PB, AC, T-Tops, Manual locks / Windows, non cruise control. It was a "attempted theft" car so the steering column and instrument bezel is trashed as well as a cracked right side exhaust manifold.
Pulled a 92 steering column from the bone yard for 50.oo, so thats a start. Knowing my limitations and lack of correct tools I took it to my local machanic who has done my work for many years, he takes great care of me so there's no issues there.

Right now I have him switching the steering column, replacing the right exaust manifold, fixing the tach (it's all over the dial), speedo cable fix/repair, vacuum line routing check, engine go over, and other odds/ends.

We got it home running poorly , but then when fooling with it, it got worse to the point of barely running. I changed the oil and plugs just to do something, and the plugs look used (red/brown light crusting) but not fouled or anything bad. Oil was real crappy but no foaming, coolant, or water droplets on dip stick, Due to the right side exaust manifold feeding all the sensors, and the like I believe that may be one of the major issues along with all the little stuff.

The body is fair, but my son is attending the local community college studing Automotive Collision Repair Technology to ICAR Standards, so I know the car will be great in the end.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone. So wish us luck, and we'll be to the site quite a bit.

Thanks,
Stan

Re: 91 RS Camero - new Father / Son project

Oops, sorry about that. Camaro (sp ! ), got it. Heck, I'm 53 years old, it's hard enough to read a keyboard at my age, let alone the micro numbers on a socket set .

No pictures as of yet. It's red, with black/white checked interior and ground effects. Do all the RS's have the ground effects ?
Thanks for the correction however. Seems like my son and I bond better under a car with scalding fluids running over us.

Thanks,
Stan

91 RS = one good project car. I wish you luck, and if you have any issues with it or any questions post it up! Even tho they are bone-heads these camaro guys on the forum really know their stuff.

what are your goals with the car? a reliable daily commuter? a father/son hot rod project? what kind of budget are you willing to put into it?

Re: 91 RS Camero - new Father / Son project

Well, other than learning how to spell the name of the vehicle correctly ....(gotta have some fun here, life is too short not to ).

The current plans are to get it to stock running condition with no "worry issues" on it being road worthy, i.e. - daily commuter. The only modifications we have currently found is a new dual exaust / cat unit and a R-134 conversion sticker under the hood. In time and with completion of his ACRT/ICAR certification I know a great looking red/black color scheme is in his plans.

As always, funds are limited on his part time job and what I can help out with now and then. We'll know more when the shop get's finished with it.
You guy's are ok on this forum, just like the CK site !

Thanks

Re: 91 RS Camero - new Father / Son project

In 91 and 92, the RS was the base option. To answer a previous question, yes, all had ground effects. I miss my '92 RS a lot :/ Good luck with the car!
