91 Camry Shudder on Accelerationredline0721 11-26-2006, 01:09 AM Just finished replacing the L/H drive shaft with a new one. Now during acceleration from about 50km/h there is a shudder (wasn't there with the old drive shaft). Haynes manual says shutter during acceleration is due to a worn C/V joint or sticking inboard C/V joint. Not sure how this can be since both are now brand new and the joints seemed to operate smoothly. Can someone please enlighten me as to the possible problem? Thanks JennyDee 11-26-2006, 05:33 AM Although my 95 Camry CV joints have been replaced, the "shutter" during acceleration between 35-40 mph I would attribute it to the motor mounts. The shutter is noticable during a hard acceleration, but is not their during a soft acceleration. I'ts my guess, and I am no expert, that the I4 transverse engine is setting up a vibration that is magnified with the shot motor mounts. redline0721 11-26-2006, 02:08 PM The shudder was not present with the old drive shaft in place. Can this still be due to motor mounts? Mike Gerber 11-26-2006, 02:10 PM Here is any easy DIY way to look for problems. Jack up the front of the car and support it securely on jack stands. Now start the engine and have someone inside the car slowly depress the accelerator pedal with the engine in drive. Have that person bring it up slowly to various RPM's. You will be on the ground in front of the car observing both drive axles. Does one of them vibrate like it is out of round? It's not impossible that the new drive axle is the problem. These are mostly rebuilt units and the quality of the rebuild varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Good luck with the problem. Mike Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
