Rear ended......possible mechanical damage?

I was rear ended today....sitting waiting to turn left, saw a car flying up behind me. I knew there was no way the car could stop in time, so I punched the gas and tried to get out of the way.
Well, it didnt work- the lady hit me going about 40-50. Not much damage to my truck, the back bumper is kind of sideways, the license plate holder is broken, my hitch is pushed in, and my bumper ends are loose.

Im wondering if there could be any mechanical damage. What do I need to look for to find out?

Re: Rear ended......possible mechanical damage?

if i were in your shoes i would have my front end looked at have a shop check for any loose components - depending on wether your wheels were turned or you had your foot on the brake any rear end collision could break or loosen steering or suspension - if it drives fine , meaning trans shifts ok and all that then your probably ok there - just dont be quick to settle - have the body fixed and drive it around for a day -maybe 2 go on a bumpy off road and see if you notice any noises that weren't there before .

Re: Rear ended......possible mechanical damage?

Seeing you drove forward you reversed a lot of the energy she would have put into your truck.

Have the frame checked to make sure it is straight. Other than that, count your plessings that it wasn't any worse.
