Re: new here just got my new firebird

i dont think any 84s had tpi, so you should double check that. it should either be tbi, or 4 barrel.

What kind of oil pressure does it have cold and hot?

Does it smoke when you first start it?

Is the block noisy at any time at any rpm?

Mines an 82. Nice car. Its cheap to replace every part on your car. If you watch on ebay from time to time when you have a little extra money, you can put one back nice in no time. A couple grand spent you can have one almost back to new from starting out with a shell of a car. Ive bought several for as much as yours just cost you, in the same condition youve described. People are giving them away seeing them as not having much potential.

Really they are very light at 3200 lbs, they steer well doing well on skidpad tests, and have aerodynamics that are tough to beat. Lowering them down an inch can bring the original .0323 Cd down to .0299 Cd wich is amazing even by todays standards in wind tunnel test results. This all makes a good sleeper home for a monster SBC.

Get a fat cam and get some good used center bolt heads for it, if your figuring the bottom end of the block is still good. That would be the most effective "cheap" mod. You can pick up some much better heads used for around 300 bucks. Some people spend just as much money on fancy exhaust and air filters, and dont get NEAR the results they would if they started throwing real parts at it. With a good cam profile and some later model heads some people would be suprised just how good 305's can run.

If you would like me to send you some links to websites having to do with your car (84 third gen) just ask. I have quite a collection of em.

Nice find and welcome to AF!
