Astro Ignition Problem?

Hello, I have a 1993 Astro van AWD, Jayco conversion. My problem is, sometimes when I turn the ignition it just will click one time and won't turn over. Then I will turn key slowly and it will start. Also after driving for a long time and I stop and shut it off, when I go to restart it I won't be able to get it out of park. Also when applying brakes sometimes there will be a click by the pedal? If the ignition has to be replaced, how do I do it? Thanks for any help!

Re: Astro Ignition Problem?

If my memory is correct, the '93 models have the older style steering column (I think the transition year was 1995, but I'm not positive). If that's the case, the ignition switch is at the base of the column, on top of the outer jacket tube. It is actuated by a linkage rod from the ignition lock cylinder.

The difficulty getting it out of PARK could be due to parking on an incline without using the park brake, or a linkage problem, or the column shift interlock.

the brake noise could be many things, from a pedal linkage or pivot bushing to a failing master cylinder or power booster. It should be investigated soon as it may present a safety issue. You'll have to dive under the dash (in what little room there is ) and see what's going on.
