Fuel Mile Per Gallon (mpg) Reading

I have a 1999 BMW 528i, and the Fuel MPG use to read at 5.9, I took it in for service and now it reads at 17.5. I was told that is should be reading at 20.0 or above. I would like to know if anybody knows what exactly the FUEL MPG should be reading out.

I also put a full tank of gas in the car and the total millege that registered was 289 mpg, should I be getting at lease 300?

If somebody can help me with this, that would be great.

Thanks

Re: Fuel Mile Per Gallon (mpg) Reading

you need to reset the mpg meter to start an acurate reading of your driving style check your owners manual on how to.
