Carrier Swap

I have a 1996 3.8 firebird with the stock "open" 3.08 differential. I have just got a killer deal on a 3k mile Zexel-Torsen 3.42 limited-slip from a buddy of mine. The problem is, that the spring perch on one side of the "new" differential is torn from an accident, and I'm not sure if the axle housing is straight. I did have to replace one of the axles due to a bent hub flange. The replacement axle cam from a 1996 Firebird, and it is exactly the same as the 1999 Trans Am Axle.

Question:

Can I load the Zexel-Torsen diff into the 1996 housing?? They really look identical from the best that I can tell. Has anyone done this? Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Carrier Swap

Just an update...

I went out to the local yard this last weekend, and cut out a pumpkin from a 96 Firebird. Guess what? IT LOOKS THE SAME! I'll keep you all posted later this week, once I try swapping the posi from the 2002 trans am into the 1996 pumpkin. It's looking pretty good so far!

Re: Carrier Swap

when you put it all back together makes sure your pinion preload is good, and check your ring gear patterns!
