A problem for true digi geeks

I have two digi cars that exibit the same problems. They Start up fine but while warming up the ignition seems to cutt out or something goes off balance. I could be driving along then all of a sudden there's no throttle response, the idle becomes ruff like as though the car looses contact to the mass AF sensor. When I turn off the car then turn it on again it proceeds to run normally or idles fine for about 10 seconds then dies again.

I've wiggled all my wiring in the right places leading to the connection to the distributor, coil, mass af sensor, throttle body, o2 sensor, coolant sensor, the comp, the ignitoin. So the wiring seems ok. What modual could possibly be F$%^ing up?

I can simulate the rough idle to a tee if I pull the connector off of the mass AF sensor and hold it close by. Is it possible the computers internal connections are getting crusty as though it were like an old stereo that when you first turn it on only one side of the amp produces noise untill you crank the volume?

Re: A problem for true digi geeks

I hate when I forget to specify, both are mk2's; 89 jetta, and a 92 Golf Canadian Spec, Digi 2 rather. Another thing I just learned, I changed the Digifant computer with the ignition control from a car with no known issues and it makes no difference. My only option after this is to change the distributor, then all the wiring in between excluding spark plug wires.

Then I'm going to start looking for a new body for my car!

Re: A problem for true digi geeks

DOn't work on wiring in minus 20 degree cold, they get real crunchy!

I figured out the problem!!!! After almost a whole year of of putting up with this intermittant problem that would happen probably around once a month, It is now resolved! My car was running real ruff and super low idle like the notes and rythm of a big block. I heard it when it was warming up from in my basement!(Loud exhaust)

So I darted to the garage and started wiggling everything, but decided to pull off the engine's coolant sensor(BLUE ONE!). I know this controls the fuel mix and rpm to a significant degree because of what the computer does. When I pulled it off, the car beagn to run fine without hesitation. I put it back on, the rpms lowered but to a reasonable amount of rpms; 900 for good idle. I jumpered a wire between the two contacts. The car began to hesitate and buck an kick like a wild Mule! Holy Hot Dang I said! Yippy KIEYAAY!

Whether it is the sensor or the wiring, is all that is left to be discovered! Gotta Go lataa
