Has anyone run the silverstars in the late 90's models Jimmy? I have a 98 jimmy and a friend who drives an s-10 pickup (2000) says we can't run the silverstars in our trucks because the headlight enclosure is plastic and the silverstars heat up so much that it melts the lens. Has anyone had this issue?
Exploding could be caused by touching the glass envelope during installation.
I would assume if water is able to get inside the lens the same result could happen. I know touching applies for sure to halogens and pretty much any other bulbs that gets real hot.
idk, this is my 3rd set in bout 2 months.. i think i may have water in that head lamp assembly though. i should probably get a new one. no i dont touch the bulbs, i make sure im not. the first time it happend i started wearing latex gloves. still blowing up, its quite a sight to when ur driving at night and it flashes.

How hard were they to install? I looked under the hood and it looked like a real PITA to get at the bulbs. On the one side I think I should yank the airbox to get at them but on the other side so I need to remove the whole battery and tray??
The bulbs are easy to change. There are plastic clips that hold the head light assemblt is place. Pull the clips and the assembly pulls out giving complete access to the back. There's a picture here, thanks again to swalt.
You can use Sylvania Silverstars without any heat issues. I wouldn't recommend them though, they actually give you less visibility than standard bulbs, and don't last nearly as long.

When those clips are pulled out does the WHOLE headlight assembly including lens come out the front or does it just open an access panel for rear access of the lamp enclosure? My stupid chiltons, which has been completely useless to date with EVERY bit of work I've done, tells me to yank the air intake assembly and the battery+battery tray COMPLETELY to get at the bulbs, grr.
Are there any other recommended high intensity lights you'd recommend? We have VERY poor vis up here, I live pretty far north and winters are heavy and dark and there are only a couple street lights in town, most of the driving is done in the pitch black on dirt roads and there's moose EVERYWHERE. Thanks for the help!
PS: If I remove the clips and it indeed does remove the whole headlight out the front does that affect the aiming of the healight itself when I re-install them?
When the two plastic clips on each side are pulled , the whole headlight will pull out toward's the front of the truck...
I have Silverstars in my 98 and I like them alot....

When you put the assembly back in make sure that it seats fully. if it doesn't your headlight will be off, easy way to check just look at the front of your truck. you will see that there is a big gap between the headlight and the closed hood. Also think of fog and driving lights.

Ok I just went out and finally got around to checking on this and MAN! This is the EASIEST THING EVER! Two clips and the headlight literally just falls out! $#@# the chiltons on this one, I'm one more step closer to throwing it in the garbage. It seriously told me to remove the airbox assembly, then the battery AND battery tray completely. Wtf?! Here's some pics:
what year is that for? the clips on the headlights. im gonna scream if that works for mine. i have a 97. i have to take my grille guard off, then the grille, and then the headlamp to get to the damn bulbs.
