Re: service engine soon light
It has been brought to my attention that your Z34 more likely has the 207 CID (3.4L) engine instead of the 3.1L in the photo. Regardless, the EGR valve is in a similar location, on the LR corner of the exhaust manifold.

Re: service engine soon light
My '93 lumina (base) had the same issue. The SES lamp only came on after driving on the highway and slowing down.. Code said the same thing. However, the light came on only a few times and hasn't since...it's been more than 4 months. I didn't have anything looked at or fixed. Shouldn't the light keep coming on?

Re: service engine soon light
The EGR on your car is Big $$$ (like $200-$250), so unless it starts to cause serious driveability issues, I'd let it go.

Re: service engine soon light
okay, now i know that was it but i didnt say that i was replacing it. i have seen other posts saying that people cleaned their egr valves. i was wondering how you do that. my ses light comes on almost every time i decelerate from a highway now. then i pull over, restart the car and it is off for a little while.

Re: service engine soon light
take it off, carefull not to break bolts, the pintle should move freely with your finger. If it doesnt, get some carb cleaner, and spray it, and move it with your finger. Over and over again, carefull not to go overboard with the carb cleaner. Also clean out the passageways with carb cleaner, and if needed a coat hanger. You can also start the car for a few seconds without the egr on it with hopes to blow out any built up carbon in the passageways. Just remember with the egr off, it will trip a god, run lean with a vacuum leak, and also sound really loud with the exhaust leak.
