what tranny?

I've got a '99 Lumina LTZ (3.8L) and I was just curious if this car has the same transmission as the base and LS sedans?

Re: what tranny?

I don't think so, 3800 series only.

Re: what tranny?

I've heard that the 4T60E has a lot of issues. What about the 65E? How do they compare?...hope that makes sense..

Shep, the 4T65E will definitely bolt up to the 3100 Vin "J" engine which was introduced with the 2000 Lumina. Not 100% sure about the 3100 Vin "M". However, the bolt patterns between the 4T60E and 4T65E appear to be the same. Major difference on the 4T60E is the vacuum modulator, PCM control/programming and wiring to the PCM module (20 way connector versus 7 way).

The GM RPO code for 4T60E is M13. For 4T65E either M15 or MN3 depending on which GM "W" body car it is. '97 and up L67 W bodies have the MN7, 4T65E-HD.

IMO the 4T65E is more problematic than a 4T60E.

Re: what tranny?

I agree with you Bob, the 4t60e's are more reliable than the 4t65e's. And the lower torque output of the 3100 doesn't require the extra beefyness of the 4t65e, so why add headaches.
