I have an 84 blazer with an 87 lt1 in it with the same drop, just done with spindles. If my ride is any indication how yours is gonna feel, don't do a sprng drop. those motors are heavy! My front end comes down hard enough to wake the dead. Mind you this is usually driving the truck with in an inch of its life... but if moneys the prob just cut the springs.

My advise would be to take a lil extra money and buy the kit. Summit has 2" drop spindles for 149.95 and the springs start at i think 75 bucks. Not a lot of money to do it right the first time. check to see if you can get stiffer shocks and springs to keep from bottoming out
