98 Grand AM break mystery

My daughter has a 98 grand am with 120k miles. When the car sits overnight or for over about 8 hrs or so, when I go to drive it, the breaks are real touchy. If you just touch the pedal they seem to grab real hard/quick. After I drive about 100 yrds it fine. I pulled all the wheels, none of the shoes or pads look bad, no leaks. I checked the vacum hose and it looks ok. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for any help..

Re: 98 Grand AM break mystery

For some reason this happens often, esecially when you back up.
A weak wheel cylinders can cause this to happen.

But mostly Its caused by moisture rusting the rotors/drums a little then they become grabby and can drag or lock up.

If they work good otherwise, I wouldnt worry to much.
Tho it wouldnt hurt to flush out the old brake fluid.
It can be done by bleedig them at each wheel repeatedly till it runs clear.

After time break fluid breaks down and gets excess moisture in the lines. Which water moves with less resistance then the break fluid, ie lock ups/dragin wheel.

hope that helps !
