Question 5 prong trans conecter to 4 prong

A little history on said car is... traded transmissions on a 1990 lumina that had a 5 prong electrical connector but the replacement from the junkyard only has a 4 prong connector. These would be the connections just above the vacuum modulator that the harness plugs into, the wire colors are as follows.
1. light blue
2. white
3. green
4. tan w/ black stripe
5. purple
does anyone know how to help me solve this little setback?

my first mistake was doing this for a friend, the second was letting him get the tranny from a junkyard, the third was considering doing it in the first place. I've had to fabricate a few things to get it to work properly but other than this wiring thing things went relitivly painless.

Back to the tranny... I'm sure the yard gave him the correct or compatible transmission but it's missing something or has extras. not sure if it;s a 3T40 - 4T60 - 4T60E - 4T65E can get you the numbers if needed.

people wouldn't ride in an airplane that hasn't been properly maintained right? So why do people get behind the wheel of a less than maintained car, and then complain about it when it breaks down. I bet if our cars were 37,000 feet above ground we would have better repair histories

Re: 5 prong trans conecter to 4 prong

In 1990, they only offered two automatics behind the 3.1 engine.

A 3-speed, (3t40, option code MD9, 2.84:1 final gear ratio)
A 4-speed, (4T60, option code ME9, 3.33:1 final gear ratio)

Later models also offered the 4T60E (option code M13) which is electronic. The extra plug at the TCC shows he bought a 4T60E, which is incompatible with his ECM programming and will not function correctly in his vehicle. Transmissions aren't my specialty, but it looks like you're going to be pulling that thing back out and getting the correct trans. One other difference between the two that may make this impossible is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor).
