Change to Auto Climate Control??

I have a 2000 Silverado and I was thinking of replacing my climate control with an Auto Climate control that I seen in a 01 Tahoe at a junk yard. Can this be done? Are there sensors that I need or are they built into the control? Any advice would help.

Thanks,
Dougger

Re: Change to Auto Climate Control??

I imagine it would get expensive fast but if you have enough time with a parts vehicle you could probably strip out what you need.

Yes, there is a sensor that reads the interior temperature. In my Tahoe, it's on the ceiling near the driver's door and, since it's a dual system, there may be one for the passenger side as well...couldn't say for sure.

There are also motorized duct dampers that will open and close based on what the computer tells them to do. I know there's at least one on the floor duct above the drivers pedals, and would guess there is at least one for each side of the upper dash vents and the passenger floor as well.

At a minimum, you'd have to get those put in and wired up...sounds like a mess to me but it may be nothing more than cutting into the ducts and running the control wiring to the HVAC controls. The question comes up a lot, maybe someone here could chime in with more specifics for you.

I think if I tried it, I'd end up with a lot of extra parts, a rattling dash, no A/C and a mad wife.

Ok, I've researched and am in the process of doing this, I ended up finding a trashed truck and tearing everything out of it that i need, basicly i am going to replace the intire duct system, it has two motors 4 temp sensor (2 driver 2 passanger) and a few more wires.

Re: Change to Auto Climate Control??

Since you've found a parts truck, would you mind taking a look at a part number for me when you get a chance?

There's a motorized damper on the floor duct above the accelerator pedal. On mine, it adjusts itself constantly and is making this real annoying sound...drives me nuts. But, I can't get a good look at it to get a manufacturer or part number from it. I about broke my back just trying to see what was making the noise under there. Do you have that part where you could read off the numbers for me?

I'd appreciate it.

If you could take some pictures while you're doing the work, I'm sure there would be plenty of people here interested in seeing how it all works out. Good luck with it!
