2001 sportage loss of power while at 60upkiaowner10 10-16-2006, 10:59 AM My sportage(01) started to loss power at 60mph on the interstate. Then it just shut off. I let it rest for awhile then started it up and it was fine for a few miles then, off again. It is at 97,000 now but at 75,000 I had all the belts changed out, which was only 10 months ago. Any suggestions on what it might be? LMP 10-17-2006, 03:15 PM That does look like heat sensitive electronic problem....crank sensor, ignition module.....do you have the Check engine light? kiaowner10 10-17-2006, 10:41 PM The dealership said it was the fuel filter, which they replaced but only 51 miles later it happened again. The car has been towwed to another Kia dealership to have the fuel tank drained. Does this sound correct? The check engine light and oil light did come on only after the engine shut off. LMP 10-20-2006, 05:32 PM I think jumping on the fuel pump as the culprit is a common excessive reaction....proven wrong in so many cases. A fuel pressure test would verify of clear that option: really simple and tale telling. . I still think your crank sensor or some electronic component (not the main computer) is a suspect.... dr pep 11-01-2006, 10:50 PM I think jumping on the fuel pump as the culprit is a common excessive reaction....proven wrong in so many cases.
