wiring harness

Searched the forum and didn't fins a match so if this is a repeat please sorry.

Neighbor called me yesterday saying his brake lights, radio and interior lights all went dead as he pulled into his driveway. Took my test light over and found the 50 amp fuse marked only as BATT blown. Using a meter I found it was indeed grounded before putting in a new fuse.

Thinking we were dead in the water as to where the short may be since the fuse was only labeled as BATT it could be anywhere. Finally came up with the idea of leaving the meter hooked up to the grounded fuse socket and set to audible tone, we then went around the van and started jiggling wires around until the meters noise stopped. In less than 5 minutes I found the harness in the drivers side kick panel had rubbed through a 10 gauge wire.

Bit of tape and loomed the body opening he was back in business, and I felt like a super genius : )
