What kind of torque can you get out of an SR20?SkylineUSA 10-08-2006, 02:10 AM A buddy of mine said in the 370 to wheels range, is that true? And if so, can the trans handle it? slideways... 10-08-2006, 09:27 AM what kind of a question is this? you can get as much torque as you want out of an SR. just depends on the parts you throw at it. and yes the transmission can handle 370 to the wheels if you know how to drive. its usually grip rather than power that destroys drivetrains. SkylineUSA 10-08-2006, 10:02 AM Ok, let me rephrase the question. How low in the rev range can you make that much torque, with less than say $4k in engine/trans parts? Anyone one have dyno numbers for there SR20s on here? I am thinking of building one for a GTR, that is why I am asking the question. Unless we are talking ungodly amounts of money, like an RB26 costs to get really good power numbers. Hit_N_Run-player 10-08-2006, 06:02 PM WHOA, is the old skylineusa we havent seen in forever? whats up man? Nice to see you back.. we know you've been over at the mustang forums the whole time lol SkylineUSA 10-09-2006, 03:40 AM Not much, been working a little here and there on the V8 GTR. If you want to see some of the work, you can go here http://forums.gtrforums.com/showthread.php?t=457 Although the SR20 is looking like a good swap too. I am just trying to find out some more info on them. I have a red top in my garage, and I might do another project with it, since I have another GTR rolling shell that I can mess with. driftking777 10-09-2006, 10:40 AM well with 4k to throw at a sr you can make some pretty good power/tq. things i would do...ARP head studs, tubular exhaust manifold, 550cc injectors (depends on power you want), enthalpy tune, and a gt2871r 86. trim turbo... that there is about 2800 in parts, and that will give you around 400whp on 18psi or so with around equal tq. might also want to get some hks 264 cams to, those help your power band alot. thats an additional 500 bucks or so. however i would get a better clutch before driving it ;) SkylineUSA 10-09-2006, 11:58 AM Thanks for the input. 264s are not too bad for the street, at least not in the RB26DETT. You have a pretty nice set-up on your 240. Do you have a site, or pics of your ride? Do you need to upgrade rods, crank or pistons? Do you know of any place where I can see a like engine that might have a dyno sheet? Hit_N_Run-player 10-09-2006, 06:04 PM I would also throw in a nice HG if everything internal is working good. driftking777 10-13-2006, 01:04 AM new HG is a good idea but not needed, built internals on an SR are REALLY not needed at only 370ish whp...I know plently of people pushing 400whp on stock block AND HG, and are doing fine, and have been so for the past year or so. I just got done powder coating another set of G7s centers black, blocking and polishing. MetalHeadZaid 10-22-2006, 04:50 AM those seem pretty rare to begin with, AND you put MONTHS of work..truly awesome. they would be my choice of rim if i could afford it...one set is probably worth more than my car. back to the point though, you want to put an SR in your gtr!? if you're looking for torque it's probably not the best engine. i think the KA or VG would be better suited for what you want, but you probably already know that. if you have the parts, i say you should go for it. SkylineUSA 10-22-2006, 09:40 AM Ya, I have a little too much time in them :) I have 1 SR20, 1 351w, and 2 RB26 in my garage right now. I also have 2 GTR rolling shells to play with as well. KAs are not around here, so that is out of play, but they are very good engines. I like the idea of an SR20 because how much lighter they are than the RB20s, well I know they are lighter, but I do not know by how much, anyone have an idea how much? Turbo711 10-25-2006, 06:46 PM RB26 FTW. Why not build the ones you have? They will handle more power/torque on stock internals than an SR. Never get a VG, go VQ30DE. I'm swapping a VQ30DE out of a FWD Maxima into my S13, using the Z33 six-speed. Believe me it works. MetalHeadZaid 10-26-2006, 12:40 AM RB26 FTW. Why not build the ones you have? Believe me it works. there is no reason why he should never get a VG. i'm not saying it's the best engine ever engineered but it will certainly get the job done when it comes to torque. why dont you tell us more about that swap you're doing? pics? Turbo711 10-26-2006, 01:58 AM Don't have pics yet. Don't have the engine yet, but it's a proven combination. It should be done over the winter. Sorry I wasn't meaning to insult you, but the VG hardly fits in a 240SX and it's heavy as a mother. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
