Limited slip diff; is it worth it to change?

I have an 02 1500 ext cab. non 4X4 Even with 265 BFG TA All Terrains if there's ANY water on the ground I can break the rear loose quite easily.

Not that I'd do this one myself; but what's entailed in adding a limited slip rear diff to my truck?

I'm fairly competent mechanically, so I'm curious. Does the whole diff/rear axle assembly come as one when making the swap?

Next question is New OEM/Used OEM or New 3rd party?

Any recommendations/warnings/info/links would be helpful!

re-use your ring gear off diff. If you go with OEM your chances that re-shimming will be minimal. You will need to get new Carrier bearings w/races and press them on. Don't try to re-use bearings, anyways you would need a bearing splitter/puller to get them off old carrier.Make sure you remember which spacers came off which side. Or you can get a Eaton or Alburn diff, but don't expect it to plug-n-play. Meaning you will be messing with adjustments alot longer than it takes to install it. Backlash adjustment is critical, NO "close enough" will do.

Personally, I would not go with an oem G80 unit. I did this and was still overpowering a new stock unit before the 60ft range. After I installed my eaton unit, I have yet to have it unlock at hard acceleration. It's defintately a price worthy unit.

Werd on what slow said. The G80 is like playing russian roulette. Def. go third party. Like Eaton, or Auburn. Detroit Tru-Trac is where im heading.
