A brief on ATFSkyWalker 09-03-2002, 09:32 AM Hi, I'm contemplating to change the ATF on my 20 000km P11 Primera Auto to synethic. I had read nearly every post on ATF here. Please correct me if I'm wrong :- API GL-4 is mainly for manual trans. It is a mineral oil. For automatic, the manual requires DexronŽ III or IIE specification. I believe the stock comes with mineral DexronŽ III compliant oil. Mobil 1 ATF is a synthetic oil and is DexronŽ III compliant, however, it did not specify the specs on copper strip corrosion unlike Pennzoil which has a spec on this. I'm suspecting that all DexronŽ III oil will cause copper corrosion which is a problem with SR20. Any expert advice on this ? Now, should I or should I not use Mobil 1, that is the question ! SkyWalker 09-03-2002, 11:30 AM Ok guys additional info. Do not use a GL 5 rated fluid in your AX 15. I spoke to a tech at Valvoline , he said the 3- 4- 5 ratings are the additives in each fluid and the GL 5 additives will eat at your brass syncro's. This you already know ! ......but...synchronizers are only present in manual transmissions. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Mobil Syn ATF are API-GL-5. This I had found out and it should do auto transmission fine. Any expert views please. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
