Multifunction Switch--Clean or Replace

I have a 2000 Blazer 4wd. I'm getting the clicking turn signal noise caused by a dirty multifunction switch (the noise goes away if I step on the brake or gently jiggle the turn signal lever). There is a superb post in the how-to section describing how to access and clean the switch. Before I tackle this job, I was wondering how long this "cleaning trick" has worked for those that have performed it. I'm thinking that if it only worked for a few months I might as well replace the switch, but if it seems to be a long-term solution, I'd rather save myself $150. Any experience on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
