HEy i was wondering of some reasons why my oil pressure on my 92 350 is so low, its almost reading in the red after the motors warmed up?? I hope theres some thing that can be done, i hope the engines ok??

Go ahead and replace it. I put up with the gauge reading less and less over about a year before replacing mine. It went back to reading 35 psi hot and pegged cold (180 K on engine and pump.)

I'd install a manual guage in place of the sending unit just to be sure...

where is the sending unit??? i dont kow if im blind, or if its hidden well?

on my 98 it is behind the dis on the drivers side under th fuel lines

On 88 through at least 90 I know it's on the driver's side, underneath. It hangs down near the oil filter and looks somewhat like a blunt vented cone that screws into the block.

my 1990 has two on it. one under the distributer on the back side and one on the drivers side by the oil filter. mine was doing the exact same thing. replaced both sensors and an oil pump and still had low oil readings. installed manual gauge and still no change...ended up rebuilding the lower end and have beautiful pressure, consistantly! wish i would of know that the first time when i had the motor out to replace the oil pump. D'oh!

Ironically, both of the potential causes for this problem are at opposite ends of the cost scale! Obviously, you'd want to start with the least expensive part (oil pressure sender) before you replace the engine or rebuild the main/rod bearings, but you'd want to do that ASAP to avoid making the engine rebuild next to impossible!

I mean, if the oil pressure sending unit is NOT bad, then you've got a timebomb waiting to happen! I think that calls for prompt action.

By the way, I just replaced my '93 454 with a Jasper 454 because of low oil pressure, but I could also hear my main bearings thumping lightly at an idle once it was warmed up. I doubt anyone else could hear it, but I know my truck!!!

Let's hope it's just the sending unit, as they do go bad.

well after looking at it, at idle it seems to me like its more a sending unit problem because it will read a solid 25/30 psi then drop suddenly and come back up, with no engine noise or RPM movment, so im thinking its time to replace it

Hey Ya'll.

I'm having the same exact problem with my 93, i'll be running down the road at 30psi + and then boom down to zero and the check engine light thinks its christmas time. Then in a matter of a couple seconds the needles dancing and then the oil pressure is back to normal...it does this from start to shutdown. I'm going to throw a mechanical gauge on it and see what happens and check what you've all said above, thank you for helping the topic starter and myself.
