are there any numbers stamped into smallblock chevy cranks? i want to find out if the one i have now is forged or cast, or if maybe its even an aftermarket item, though i seriously doubt it...

Re: smallblock crank i.d.

there are numbers yes and they are called casting numbers

stamping numbers are stamped INTO parts

casting numbers are raised and are part of the casting, not added on to the part

all GM cast iron parts have some sort of casting code except some engine accessory brackets sometimes

but very rarely

google the numbers on your crank and youll find out what it is

or post them here i have a book and google too lol

good luck
