"89" Lxi Tranny fluid

My owners manual says to replace the tranny fluid with Dextron ll but I went to walmarts and they only had dextron lll and Dextron ATF 4
Can either of these be substituted for Dextron ll?

thanks,JIM

Re: "89" Lxi Tranny fluid

There has been a discussion on this on the forum recently. I believe on Toyota forum. There is a lot of helpfull information there.

From my own experience I can tell you that my Subaru also required Dexron II. I was not able like you find it anywhere. So after some research I switched to Dexron III. It was many years ago. I still drive it with no problems.

The most recent flavor (Dextron IV) replaces the earlier ones. Also, if you plan to keep that car going, use only Honda's auto transmission fluid. It costs a little more, but those who build transmissions for a living tell me that the additives in it are for Hondas.
