When I park my car and shift into park (automatic) the dash light (P) doesnt light up and the car wont release my keys.

Try to jiggle the lever and make sure it is exactly in Park.

Wear in the solenoid actuation mechanism. Pull the console out and take a look what's happening.

This has been covered many times. The problem may be the gear shifter position switch located on the left side of the shifter under the center console cover. A varrnish builds up on the P contact which is all the way forward.. You need clean the contacts on the slider using with thinner and very fine emery paper. Then coat with a light grease. You can disassemble the switch without removing it from the console. Before reassembling, make sure the P ligths when in Park with the key on.

There are a few screws on the side, it should lift right out.
