I have a 1948 2 door Fleetline the 4th one make in 48' its all original but due to sitting in a garage for 40 years then outside for 10 years it has a lot of surface rust where paint is coming off and inside has pretty much rotted away

All that can be fixed and I have had it running.

What is needed is an accelerator pump for the Carter Carb. its leather and needs replacing. I can bring it back to life a little by soaking it in gas but not enough. The engine is of course the original 216

I have bought a few carb. kits for it but all they contain is gaskes and a few other things I don't need.

Any ideas. JC Whitney no longer carries parts for it.

There are lots of carb rebuilders and suppliers in Hemmings news. I have also been pretty successful with carb kits back to the 50's from Napa. BTW updated accelerator pumps will have a neoprene type plunger.

I appreciate the reply. I have had some luck at NAPA stores but this one they don't have. Points, plugs, clutch, brake shoes etc. No problem. They do have it witout the pump.

The neoprene will be great. I have tried to fit some other neoprene where the leather is with no luck.

I'll order a Hemming's magazine. Living so far back in the sticks that we have to import sunshine has a lot of advantages but good book stores are 65 miles away.

If the leather cup is still intact (not split, torn, or completely rotted) try soaking it in a lanolin-enhanced oil instead of gasoline. You can find a lot of old carb kits here:
