'92 1.9L lifter designation

I need to replace some/all lifters due to wear. My Chilton's manual directs to install lifters in bores, then install 4 rocker arms in lifter position No's 3,6,7 and 8, rotate engine til camshaft sprocket keyway is in 6 o'clock position and then install the remaining 4 rocker arms in lifter position No's 1,2,4 and 5.
The manual never gives a hint as to the numbering of the lifters. Any ideas?
Thanks to all responses forthcoming!

These positions-locations are as you face the engine from the radiator. The front of the engine is on the left.

Going from left to right on the back side or intake side they are 2-4-6-8.
Going from left to right on the front side or exhaust side they are 1-3-5-7.
